The celebrations of the 15th Anniversary of the ascension of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the Golden Stool have begun in earnest. From the last Akwasidae when the Anniversary Programme was officially announced, two major events have been held. The first one was the Remembrance Service for the two immediate past Kings of Asante, Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II (1931-1970) and Otumfuo Opoku Ware II (1970-1999) and the immediate past Queen Mother Nana AmaSerwaNyarko (1945-1977).
In a nearly one hour sermon, the Methodist Metropolitan Bishop of Kumasi, the Very Rev Prof Osafo-Kantanka thanked God for the leadership with which He had endowed the people of Asante and called on the people to be proud of their heritage even as they aim for greater things.
On Tuesday, March 23, Traditional priests from Tanoso held a day-long display before an enthrall led crowd at Manhyia Dwabrem.
The next anniversary event will be the Kuntunkunidae which will be marked on Sunday, March 29.
While the normal Akwasidae is a joyous event celebrated in pomp and circumstances, Kuntunkunidae is celebrated in black mourning attire to honour the heroes who laid down their lives for Asanteman.
