Brazil’s Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Irene Galla, led a team of investors from Brazil to the Manhyia Palace and presented to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the new designs detailing out the redevelopment of Kejetia into a modern business hub.
The designs envisage easy traffic flow, sewer collection and disposal system, fire detection and combat infrastructure, proper air circulation at the Central Market, fixing of CCTV cameras to track criminals and waste collection and disposal.
Madam Galla was accompanied by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kwasi Oppong – Fosu and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Honorable Eric Opoku.
Mr. Oppong-Fosu told Otumfuo that the government is committed to see the new project comes into fruition and thus give Kumasi a new image.
Otumfuo praised the designs but feared the project might delay due to the financial constraints of the government.
He hoped the government would work out objectively with the Brazilian government on the cost involved and action speeded up over the construction.
The Kumasi Central Market is arguably the biggest market in West Africa but has recently become awash with fire out breaks to the concern of residents.
