Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has urged politicians to refrain from personal attacks and insinuations likely to undermine the success of the December polls.
He pointed out that issue like massive road infrastructure, portable water, educational facilities to improve quality teaching and learning as well as affordable housing for the ordinary Ghanaians and job creation should take the centre stage as politicians embark on their campaigns.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu was receiving Dr. Abu Sakara, the flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and his wife, Mrs. Sakara, Madam Samia Nkrumah as well as party executives and a section of their founding fathers.
The call was meant to solicit the Asantehene’s support and blessings as they embarked on their campaign in Ashanti Region.
The Asantehene expressed concern about the numerous challenges confronting Ghanaians adding since Ghanaians were more discerning; they would make the right choice by voting for leaders likely to meet their aspirations.
He noted that with a population of over 24 million, with many in the youthful bracket, politicians should devise means of meeting their interest and needs.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu pointed out that issues like accommodation, employment opportunities, quality education, needed to build the capacity of the youth in a more meaningful manner, portable water and massive road infrastructure should occupy the minds of politicians as they seek the support from the electorates.
He declared, “this is not war. It is what you can do for the citizenry and how you will win the confidence of the electorates to secure their votes.”
The Asantehene expressed the hope that the elections would be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner to enable Ghanaians accept the result and support the winner to initiate policies and programmes that would impact well on the people.
